PADMAVATI
This collection showcases my subconscious impressions and associative thinking of the storyline of the Bollywood epic film ‘Padmavati’. Going beyond the on-screen narrative and immediate scope of the story, this designed work reshapes peculiar attributes inspired by the film in a contemporary context. ‘Padmavati’ features its namesake Rani Padmavati, the Rajput queen of India who was known for her beauty and being the wife of the revered Maharawal Ratan Singh. It is a film about love and courage and her relationship with Sultan Alauddin Khilji, a rival king who is besotted by her beauty and attacks the kingdom that she rules, to solely win her over.
The omnipresence of attributes that are juxtapositioned through the film, be it beauty and valor, patriotism and betrayal or strength and delicacy, fueled the inspiration for my collection. This extended to the delicate, flowing drapes, bold abstract collaging and creative textile manipulations influenced by this era. Ultimately culminating into a fashion collection that has the allure of an untold story of a period which mesmerized one and all with its beauty, enamor and artistic detail.
